Sociological bulletin 2025 out

The 2025 Sociological Bulletin of the Czech Sociological Association has just been published, with home as its central theme.

I contributed a short essay (Domov mezi "slumem" a nocležištěm) in which I reflect, through the literature on informal urbanism and the knowledge produce on it, on whether the way we--as researchers, but also as a broader public--think and write about various homeless encampments in Czechia fully realizes their empirical and theoretical potential.

I argue that an encampemtn undertsood as a home can fucntion as kind of "living archive" for studying and theorizing diverse urban speheres and processes, while also serving as a source of practical knowledge. Such spaces invite us to rethink the boundaries of the habitable, the political, and the urban, and to ask where home--and with it, the politics of the city--can and should take place.
